The mod at a glance

  • Name: Nuevo Paraíso: The Forgotten Frontier.
  • Author: the modder Rixus724, credited with a group called the Mexico Team.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has no playable Mexico. The game's map stops at the San Luis River, the border that John Marston crosses in the first game. Rockstar never released story DLC for RDR2.

What it adds

The mod is set in 1907, the year of RDR2's epilogue. It rebuilds the three regions of Nuevo Paraíso from the 2010 game: Diez Coronas, Perdido and Punta Orgullo. GamingBible lists four restored towns: Escalera, Chuparosa, Casa Madrugada and Las Hermanas. According to Screen Rant, each town has its own population and daily routines.

The activities include treasure hunting, bounty hunting, fort defense, train robberies, bartending, smuggling runs, taxi jobs and stable work. A working railway links New Austin to Nuevo Paraíso. The mod also adds new animal species, gang hideouts and random encounters.

The mod includes a playable storyline for Sadie Adler. At the end of RDR2, Sadie says she is thinking of heading to South America. Game Rant reports that Arthur Morgan or John Marston can also be used, with Sadie as the recommended choice.

Screen Rant describes version 1.2 as more stable but stripped down after early problems, and players have reported bugs on the Nexus Mods page. GamingBible quotes players calling the mod a "masterpiece" and "the greatest extension for RDR2".

The same Mexico as Red Dead Redemption

In the first game, set in 1911, Nuevo Paraíso is the setting of Act II. Escalera is the seat of Colonel Agustín Allende. Chuparosa is where Landon Ricketts lives out his retirement. The rebellion led by Abraham Reyes tears the province apart during the act. The mod places these locations four years earlier, before that war.

Red Dead Redemption itself has been sold on PC since October 29, 2024.

Rockstar's September 2026 mod guidelines

On September 10, 2026, Rockstar published a Mod Guidelines page on its website, ahead of the November 19 launch of Grand Theft Auto VI. The page applies to Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption and Rockstar's other games. Two of its rules are relevant here:

  • Mods must not expand or modify Rockstar's official storylines, plots, missions, characters or established continuity.
  • Mods must not combine maps, locations, characters, storylines, in-game assets or other IP from one Rockstar title into another.

Nuevo Paraíso brings Red Dead Redemption locations into Red Dead Redemption 2, and writes a new story for an existing character. Take-Two's 2017 statement on single-player PC mods already excluded projects that import other IP, "including other Rockstar IP".

Rockstar has made no public statement about this mod. Several outlets, GamingBible among them, raised the risk of a takedown. At the time of writing, the mod is still listed and no takedown has been reported.
