In 1911 Ross and the Bureau take Abigail and Jack Marston into custody to coerce John into tracking down his old associates, Bill Williamson, Javier Escuella and Dutch van der Linde. John completes the grim list in exchange for his family's freedom.
Betrayal and revenge
Rather than leaving John in peace, Ross leads an army raid on the Marston ranch at Beecher's Hope, where John is gunned down. In 1914 a grown Jack Marston tracks the retired Ross down and kills him, closing the story.
Personality
Ross is pragmatic, manipulative and without remorse, a man who frames cruelty as the price of progress and order. He embodies the new century's faith in government power.
