"Pouring Forth Oil II" is an optional story mission of Red Dead Redemption 2 in Chapter 2: Horseshoe Overlook. It is given by John Marston and follows Pouring Forth Oil I. It is skipped if four in-game hours pass while it is active, or if it is the only mission available. This guide lists it fourteenth of the chapter's 24 missions.

Arthur Morgan steals the oil wagon that John's plan needs to stop a train in Scarlett Meadows. He takes it from the Cornwall Kerosene & Tar refinery, or from a wagon coming from Valentine, and hides it at Old Trail Rise. The wagon stays there until Pouring Forth Oil IV.

Story

The plan

In Pouring Forth Oil I, John proposed to stop a train of wealthy passengers by leaving a wagon full of oil on the tracks. He took charge of the guns, ammunition and dynamite. Arthur took charge of the wagon, which he knew where to find, and John told him to hide it north of Dewberry Creek.

The Cornwall refinery

Arthur rides to the Heartland Oil Fields, a refinery of the Cornwall Kerosene & Tar company, east of Valentine. The company belongs to Leviticus Cornwall, whose train the gang robbed in Who the Hell is Leviticus Cornwall?.

Wooden oil derricks and several metal storage tanks around a pond, with workshops, a smoking chimney and wooded hills behind
The Heartland Oil Fields, where Arthur can steal the oil wagon at the Cornwall Kerosene & Tar refinery.

Two oil wagons stand at the refinery, closely guarded. The guards open fire on Arthur. The wagon must not take too much damage: if it does, it explodes, killing Arthur and failing the mission.

The wagon from Valentine

Arthur can instead intercept an oil wagon that leaves Valentine for the refinery. It has a single guard, which makes it the safer option, but the drive to the drop-off is longer.

Old Trail Rise

Arthur drives the wagon to the drop-off at Old Trail Rise and leaves it there. His next objective is to tell John back at camp that the wagon is in position, which is Pouring Forth Oil III.

Choices and variants

Refinery or Valentine

  • At the refinery: the wagons are nearer the drop-off, but heavily guarded. One of them is fairly easy to steal: Arthur jumps the fence, runs to the wagon and drives off.
  • From Valentine: the longer drive can cost the Gold Medal time limit.

If the mission is skipped

If four in-game hours pass while the mission is active, or if it is the only mission available, it is no longer offered and John steals the oil wagon himself. In Pouring Forth Oil III, he then tells Arthur that the wagon has been taken care of.

Mission failure

  • The wagon is destroyed.
  • Arthur dies.
Gold Medal objectives
Objectives to complete for the Gold Medal.
#Objective
1Deliver the wagon to the drop-off within 1 minute 45 seconds.

The time limit is strict. The fastest choice is the oil wagon on the left, next to the train tunnel; from there, Arthur can drive through the tunnel or head straight over the hill to the drop-off. The timer stops once the wagon enters the yellow drop-off zone, so Arthur can then take his time to park it.
