Story

Back at camp

When Arthur has hidden the oil wagon at Old Trail Rise himself, in Pouring Forth Oil II, he goes back to Horseshoe Overlook to tell John it is in position. "John." John asks how it went; Arthur says it went well and asks him the same. John: "Got everything we need." At the end of Pouring Forth Oil I, he had left to get the supplies.

Arthur: "Good. I think we need another man. Charles?" John: "I'll go get him. Meet us at the wagon when you can." "Sure", answers Arthur.

John adds: "See, Arthur... I ain't that dumb." In Pouring Forth Oil I, Arthur had called the oil wagon idea brilliant for John and joked that a wolf had eaten half his brains. Arthur answers: "Next time, let the wolves eat all your brain... then you'll be a genius."

To the wagon

John leaves to find Charles, and Arthur rides to the oil wagon at Old Trail Rise. It is the starting point of Pouring Forth Oil IV, the train robbery itself.

Choices and variants

If John took the wagon

If Pouring Forth Oil II was skipped, the conversation is different. John: "You never got us that oil wagon did you?" Arthur: "Ah, I'm sorry. I clean forgot." John tells him not to worry: it has been taken care of, otherwise they would miss the train. "Thank you", says Arthur.

John asks whether he is still interested in the job. Arthur says yes, but they will need another man: "I like Charles Smith for this kind of thing." John will get him, and tells Arthur where to meet them: "There's an old burnt out shack up near the border... north of a place called Dewberry Creek. We stashed it there."

Arthur thanks him again. John: "See, Arthur... even you make mistakes sometimes." Arthur: "Sometimes..."
